Fpi Data Analysis
D. Mack
last updated 1/16/98 (maybe)
*****************************************************************************
Our long term physics goal is the extraction of Fpi, but that requires absolute
measurements of separated response functions and is 1-2 years away. We can start
tackling ratios almost immediately. Pieces of physics and names tentatively
attached to them are as follows:
Fpi Volmer
g_piNN Vansyoc
D-/D+ ratios Ketevi, Hamlet and Vardan (Yerevan)
D+/H+ ratios ANL? Gaskell? Avery?
12C-/12C+ ratios Ent??

NEWS:
*********************
A new korean student has arrived to help with the analysis, Ilkyoung Shin. I
have some ideas about how to keep him busy but suggestions are welcome.
First meeting of D-/D+ analyzers took place Thursday Jan 8 (HAMLET, KETEVI,
MACK). Partition of tasks as follows:
1. Short write-up on the D-/D+ physics goals: MACK
2. contribute to replay_1: All (eg, Ketevi-optics, Hamlet-Shower counter, Mack-
documentation and surveys)
3. Think about cuts: HAMLET
4. First look at replay_0: (HAMLET)
5. Distribute copies of run sheets: (MACK)
SHORT TERM: SHOULD COMPLETE BY FEB 1, 1998:

Note: Replay_0 is considered to be the existing muddled collection of oct-dec
97 online and Ifarm based .hbook, .txt, and .rzdat files.
Complete Fpi experiment documentation MACK (IN PROGRESS)
(bscopesX,energy measurementX,scan run sheets,paper
copies of logbook)
Complete oct97.kinematics file VANSYOC
Replay_1 using latest matrix elements, MACK, VANSYOC
kinematics data base, histogram definitions,
and online analyzer.
Run overview table to supplement oct97.kinematics. VANSYOC (IN PROGRESS)
Copy of Fpi logbook (no run starts) to every analyzer. ???
Set up Fpi analysis logbook (electronic) VOLMER (IN PROGRESS)

"Ketevi Dec 97 SOS1" matrix elements KETEVI
installation in online analyzer.
Preliminary "Volmer Dec 97 HMS100" Matrix VOLMER
elments and install in online analyzer.
note: Both sets are preliminary in the sense that there are mm-level offsets
which are not yet accounted for (due to beam steering, solid target positions,
spectrometer centers of rotation, spectrometer optical axis pointing, and
perhaps some others). Good fits in the HMS presently require forbidden matrix
elements, so those fits are more likely to change. The absolute P0 of both
spectrometers is also not known at the 10-3 level. The P0 offset in the SOS
may be even larger. What Jochen and Ketevi have showed me so far has good
resolution with only minor residual systematic dependences where there
shouldn't be any. Despite the caveats expressed above, they are probably the
best set of matrix elements that have ever been generated for either spectrometer.
