Instruction for RCs

Past 24 hours

Mostly smooth production. Good 24 hours.

Issues:

  • Flipping script procedure falling through the crack caused large charge asymmetry for two hours, Hall C RC didn't follow the procedure: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4212928
    • Suggestions for the future
  1. Adding the charge asymmetry to the Hall C alarm handler.
  2. Making the instruction clear for the future Hall C RC on the half-wave plate change. (This information must be passed on).

The plan is to data taking till 7:00 am Wednesday.

Current Status

Near Future Plan

Wednesday, November 2, during the beam study, the plan is the following:

  • 7:00 beam stops. Rotate SHMS to 38 degrees.
  • 7:30 a.m.: sweep the hall open for the restricted access.
  • Hall will enter restricted access at 8:00-8:15 a.m.,
  • No time limit on closing the hall.
  • We will attempt the following maintenance items:
    • Moving NPS to 6 meters. (from the target). Re-survey for radiation level with Radcon. 6m pin and 9m pin.
    • NPS students will remove Column 0: PMTs + bases. Hall tech support is needed for this part.
    • Two new bases with the low voltage regulator bypassed (verified) will be swapped into the NPS (column 0).
    • NPS shielding installation: large sheets of borated-polyethylene will be transferred from Hall A to C by Hall C tech. (3-4m NPS position), fixed to the rails.
    • After installing the shield, reconfirm SHMS angle limit.
    • Replace the NPS radiation monitoring dosimeters. (Mitch and others), 8 in column #0, 8 in cloumn #29.
    • LED troubleshooting. (Mitch)
    • Heidi is looking into adding an additional bandit to ensure SHMS dipole stability.
    • Chandan and Dave Mack will access and check the HMS hodoscope patch panel. to address this issue: https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4210267
    • Aaron will push a new code for the NPS chiller controller.
    • Joe will guide a walk-through at 1 p.m.
    • Virtual machine reboot request from the computing center (Hanjie is coordinating this part)
    • Bob will take another look at the scaler server.
    • Simona will place some test samples into the Hall (not NPS-related).
    • Paolo for additional lead shielding, we need the holder. (expected to come in today in the afternoon).

In the near term future:

  1. Sometime in the future, we will invite Vald to give an insight into the high radiation test results.
  2. We will perform a corrector coil beam steering test for the next angle setting with a non-zero corrector coil field.
