Current Status

  • Jun 17 - Swing (yesterday)
    • pionLT optics checkout completed (Jacob verified 200 counts / hole / foil)
  • Jun 18 - Owl (today)
    • coincidence trigger checkout was completed during late Jun 17 Swing / Early Owl shift --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4004019
      • During early Owl, shift crew noticed pTRIG5 (coin. trigger HMS EL-REAL + SHMS 3/4) was missing. This was determined by Brad to be a faulty delay module and module was replaced --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4004101
      • There was also a report of an issue with TDC errors in the replay, but these were found to be an insignificant fraction, and most likely due to a noise burst which caused the TDCs to reject hits due to exceeding its buffer --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4004102
  • Jun 18 - Day (today)
    • H(e,e'p) coincidence, which needed ~10,000 counts, but decided to stop earlier to take dummy data. As of 6 am they had ~5400 events.
      • Jacob noticed a discrepancy between estimates and reality in the SHMS singles and coincidence rates for H(e,e'p) --> https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4004139 . But this discrepancy seems to have been attributed to a too tight missing mass cut, as D. Gaskell explained to me.

Current Run Plan

  • Do single Heep coin setting ( DONE )
  • Begin production physics, p.9 of pionLT Summer 2022 Run Plan ( IN-PROGRESS )
    • NOTE A typical production run, at 1 hr beam-on-target and 80 uA can easily turn to at least 4 hrs, because accelerator is currently only delivering 45/80 uA and the efficiency could be 50% or worse.

Notices in Effect for Shift Crew

  • Please pro-rate ABU for max current limit in run plan (uA) in beam time accounting. For example, if we receive 15 uA instead of the max_current_limit in the run plan, then the ABU should be: ABU_prorated = 15/(max current limit) * ABU
  • Message from Ole Hansen: There will be a brief (<30min) outage of the Hall A and Hall C /work servers on Tuesday (6/21). This will happen during the workday already instead of the usual 5pm-10pm time slot for monthly IT maintenance. Please plan accordingly, i.e. don't start any mass replays ;-)

Current Issues

Planned Accesses to the Hall

  • During the next accelerator maintenance period (Wed Jun 22):
    • S. Lassiter needs to put crush washers in LCW filters, so we may see a little bit of water by the HMS boogie for now, until he can put the washers next week, during maintenance period HMS Dipole LCW ( PENDING )
    • Hall C Expert needs to check SHMS ROC 4 Slot 9 Channel 0 FADC for potentially loose connection, as Column 5, Row 1 block appears to have no occupancy. SHMS Cal Occupancy ( PENDING )
    • Xinzhan Bai request to go to restricted access to quickly swap MPD electronics out and check signals (~ 30 min.), whenever there is extended down (most likely during next accelerator maintenance period) : Contact: xbai@jlab.org, cell: (434) 422-2809 ( PENDING )
    • Hall C Expert check ROC 3 pertaining to this log-entry: ROC 3 TDC FIFO Error

Planned Accelerator Configuration Changes

Special Requests

  • Mark Jones would like to take HMS optics data with a 4x4 mm^2 raster at some point (when HMS is at a lower momentum, i.e., current setting) for checks. ( PENDING )
