Run Plan for Kaon LT 10.6GeV End Game

Strategy

  1. Finish remaining kinematic points
  2. Minimize risk:
    1. Finish full 6deg. dataset first to avoid rotation issues
    2. Next get partial dataset for last kinematic points
    3. Ensure we have Al Dummy for each setting by front-loading them at each kinematic change
    4. Aim to finish by Saturday, leaving buffer for contingencies or opportunistic revisiting of other kinematic points

Run Plan Schematic

Owl Day Swing
Wednesday 6deg. LH2 6deg. LH2 9deg. Dummy 9deg. LH2
Thursday 9deg. LH2 12deg. Dummy 12deg. LH2 12deg. LH2
Friday 9deg. LH2 9deg. LH2 9deg. LH2
Saturday 12deg. LH2 12deg. LH2 12deg. LH2 buffer
Sunday buffer buffer buffer
Monday buffer X X

Detailed Run Plan

Wednesday Owl

  1. Same setting as previous shift (Q2=5.5, W=3.02, x=0.4, θSHMS=6.49)
  2. Same target as previous shift (LH2)
  3. Desired beam current: 45µA
    1. Do NOT run at higher beam current (will kill tracking efficiency)
    2. Adjust PS1 (SHMS-3-4) to give pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz (should be same as previous shift)
    3. Adjust PS3 (HMS ELREAL) to give pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz (should be same as previous shift)
    4. Ensure PS0 = 0 (This is the physics trigger!) (should be same as previous shift)
    5. Make a log entry if changing pre-scalers!
  4. Try to take 1 hour runs

  5. Instructions for the last hour:
    1. If beam really bad in last hour: prepare next kinematic setting/target for swing (see below)
    2. If beam still good in last hour: continue taking data until swing
