Strategy

  1. Finish remaining kinematic points
  2. Minimize risk:
    1. Finish full 6deg. dataset first to avoid rotation issues
    2. Next get partial dataset for last kinematic points
    3. Ensure we have Al Dummy for each setting by front-loading them at each kinematic change
    4. Aim to finish by Saturday, leaving buffer for contingencies or opportunistic revisiting of other kinematic points

Wednesday OWL

  1. Same setting and target as previous shift
    1. Setting: Q2=5.5, W=3.02, x=0.4, θSHMS=6.49
    2. Target: LH2
  2. Desired beam current: 45µA
    1. Do NOT run at higher beam current (will kill tracking efficiency)
    2. Ensure PS1 (SHMS-3-4) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    3. Ensure PS3 (HMS ELREAL) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    4. Ensure PS5 = 0 (This is the physics trigger!)
    5. Make a log entry if changing pre-scalers!
  3. Try to take 1 hour runs

Wednesday DAY

  1. Same setting and target as previous shift
    1. Setting: Q2=5.5, W=3.02, x=0.4, θSHMS=6.49
    2. Target: LH2
  2. Desired beam current: 45µA

    2. Ensure PS1 (SHMS-3-4) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz

    2. ROTATE SHMS to 9.56 deg (from TV)
      1. Beam off during the SHMS movement. Pay close attention to the hall cameras while departing the beam line, and be prepared to hit the rotation kill switch if necessary.
      2. All other spectrometer settings stay the same
    3. Update standard.kinematics with the new settings
  6. Desired beam current: (50-60)µA
    1. Ensure PS1 (SHMS-3-4) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    2. Ensure PS3 (HMS ELREAL) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    3. Ensure PS5 = 0 (This is the physics trigger!)
    4. Make a log entry when changing pre-scalers!
  7. Try to take 1.6-1.9 hours of good data in 2-3 runs (Good data means 100% efficiency)
  8. If done early, continue with the OWL program

    1. CHANGE TARGET: 10cm LH2
    2. Setting unchanged: Q2=5.5, W=3.02, x=0.4, θSHMS=6.49
    3. Update standard.kinematics with the new settings
  3. Desired beam current: as much as possible with good stability
    1. Ensure PS1 (SHMS-3-4) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    2. Ensure PS3 (HMS ELREAL) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    3. Ensure PS5 = 0 (This is the physics trigger!)
    4. Make a log entry when changing pre-scalers!
  4. Try to take 1 hour runs
  5. For BTA: Pro-rate against 70µA when running on LH2

  6. Changing both target and SHMS rotation angle. Do simultaneously if possible to save time.

    2. ROTATE SHMS to 12.56 deg (from TV)
      1. All other spectrometer settings stay the same
    3. CHANGE TARGET: Al Dummy
    4. Update standard.kinematics with the new settings
  7. Desired beam current: 40µA
    1. Ensure PS1 (SHMS-3-4) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    2. Ensure PS3 (HMS ELREAL) is giving pre-scaled rates close to 100Hz
    3. Ensure PS5 = 0 (This is the physics trigger!)
    4. Make a log entry when changing pre-scalers!
  8. Try to take 1.6-1.9 hours of good data in 2-3 runs (Good data means 100% efficiency)
