Summary

Yesterday (03/05) Dave Gaskell did a Moller measurement for both IN and OUT HWP states (see his summary https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4261544). Once he was done with Moller, we proceeded back to production in KinC_x25_4 kinematics. We are going to stay in this setting up until the pass change on March 11th. Before the pass change, on Sunday (03/10), we plan to move the NPS to 8.5m and perform the SHMS/HMS rotation to elastic kinematics.

Today the accelerator will do some beam studies and valve repair. They expect beam to be back around 7pm.

While the accelerator is down, we will do some work in the hall (Heidi and Ellen will work on the HMS dipole and Josh will troubleshoot the NPS temperature sensor). We are currently in Controlled access.

See also logentry from Chandan Ghosh about our recent encounters of the target heater power dropping to zero and the corresponding instructions to the shift crews (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4261656).

We will have an RC meeting today at 11 a.m.

Planned Access to the Hall

Today (03/06) Hall C will go to Controlled access. We plan the following work in the Hall:

  • Heidi and Ellen -- HMS dipole work.
  • Josh -- temperature sensor troubleshooting.

Accelerator

Today (03/06) during the Day shift the accelerator plans to do some maintenance work first (valve repair) and then to do beam studies. They expect beam to be back around 7pm.

Current Run Plan

Current Issues

  • Hanjie was concerned that some NPS crates have relatively higher fan temperatures (~95F). We put box fans for those crates. We also asked Facilities if they can lower the AC set point from 68F to 65F (was done on Wed 02/28). Hanjie says that the the crates are warm, but stable.
  • For the past week we had a few weird encounters of sudden drops in target heater power that recover by themselves (the latest was overnight https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4261277 and the following logentry is from Saturday 03/01 https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4259365). See logentry from Chandan Ghosh on that matter and the corresponding instructions to the shift crews (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4261656).
  • NPS temperature sensor issue (Josh Crafts).

Future plans

  • Wednesday (03/06): Accelerator beam studies.
  • Sunday (03/10): move the NPS to 8.5m + SHMS/HMS rotation to elastic kinematics. The work is proposed to happen at noon (Steve, Larry, and Jerry).
  • We will stay in KinC_x36_4 until the pass change on March 11th.
