Minutes Hall C Meeting 2/4/2013

  • Steve Smith: -
    • A brief safety culture discussion.
    • Showed 2 slides – Safety Trend Analysis.
    • Safety culture survey results were presented.


  • Andy Kenyon:
    • Cutting continues on SOS Hut. Back wall and floor remain. “G0” gas lines mostly down, but not all. C cans removal awaits crane in hall.


  • Joe: Electrical
    • Nitrogen tank is empty and needs to be refilled.
    • Polyflow chamber gas lines appear structurally sound.
    • Will replace interdict sieving only.
    • Starting to assembly new Hoffman duct routing together so SHM can clear.
    • Start soon G0 patch panel removal.
    • Roll of ribbon cable sent to Hampton.
    • Old G0/Qweak cables are still too hot to send off site.


  • Mike Fowler:
    • SHMS rail plates in place on rods.
    • Need tighten bolts, place and align rails and grout.
    • Expect completion in of this month.
    • SHMS structure assembly contract still in bidding stage with a planned start date in March.


  • Andy Kenyon:
    • Lockwood starting SOS steel support structure cutting in March


  • Paul Brindza:
    • Design work on Noble gas Cherenkov detectors underway.
    • Design work on SHMS vacuum exit spool piece proceeding, but is tricky.
    • New Moller Quad coils will be wound using new copper which has yet to be ordered.
    • SHMS door opening hardware being designed so as to function similarly to existing HMS door.
    • Accepted alignment report form Craft for SHMS double boggie wheel assemblies.
    • Last 3 Danfisik power supplies at factory waiting final manufacture tests. Should be here by May 1st. of this year.
    • A major break through appears to have occurred in the Sigma-Phi magnet manufacturing schedule. The dipole is now expected end of 2014.
    • Q1 and Michigan State quad also expected to arrive by the end of 2014.
    • Last SHMS quad delivery expected the middle of 2015.
    • Sigma-Phi developed new thermal champing scheme to allow coil winding to proceed. It has not yet been tested in a production setting. Some 20 heat expanded rings must slip onto coil assembly. 2nd coil winding station is now part of manufacturing schedule.
    • Formal contract modifications likely only weeks away.
    • Greg’s concern about “strange” anaconda routings addressed by Paul.
    • It is also possible that the engineers may have simply got their available spigot count wrong.


  • Brad:
    • 3 VSX crates arrived.
    • Flash-ADC test stand being set up.
