Current Status

  • Jack, Ethan, Steve and Joe will stop working on HMS Q2 at 6pm, then we lock up. Hoping for working HMS Q2 tomorrow.
  • Joe will meet with electricians tomorrow to order new part for rotation control and make plans to move it on an RF recovery day (takes about a day to install). This will hopefully resolve the rotation reset problems.
  • Summary of runs from last night:

1) F2 tune at -5.925: runs 7158, 7159

2) Nominal tune at -5.925: runs 7161, 7162

3) Sylvester's radiator study: runs 7163 (out), 7165 (in)

4) Delta scan: run 7166@16deg, 7167@20deg, 7168@22deg

Current Run Plan

  • x>1 optics study: Ep = -7.001, theta = 13.11 deg, normal tune (target: optics 1, collimator: "sieve", trigger: ps2=0)- 2 hours (over 180 K good e- events)

Instructions to monitor events:

1) do the 50 K replay (./run_shms.sh)

2) do root ROOTfiles/shms_replay_production_run_50000.root

3) do T->Draw("P.gtr.y>>h1(100,-5.,5.)","P.ngcer.npeSum>2.0 && P.gtr.dp>-12.0 && P.gtr.dp<20.0")

4) do T->Draw("P.cal.etottracknorm>>h2(150,0.01,1.5)","abs(P.gtr.y)<5.0 && P.gtr.dp > -12. && P.gtr.dp < 20. && P.ngcer.npeSum > 2.")

5) Look for the electron peak and cut on that

6) do h2->Integral(lowBin, highBin)

7) read the number and now project how many triggers you should take to get 180 K of e-


  • x>1 optics study: Ep = -7.001, theta = 13.11 deg, F2 tune (target: optics 1, collimator: "sieve", trigger: ps2=0)- 2 hours (over 180 K good e- events)

Instructions on how to set the F2 tune from nominal tune on magnets:

1) run the following: go_magnets_SHMS_F2 -5.925

2) click Go on Target

3) do T->Draw("P.cal.etottracknorm>>h2(150,0.01,1.5)","P.gtr.dp > -10. && P.gtr.dp < 22. && P.ngcer.npeSum > 2.")

4) Look for the electron peak

5) do h2->Integral(low,high) (where low and high are the bin numbers)

6) read the number and now project how many triggers you should take to get 450 k electrons


  • F2 yptar scan: Ep = -3.3 GeV with theta = 19.85 deg, 21 deg, 22.15 deg, F2 tune (target: LH2 , collimator: "collimator", trigger: ps2=0)

1) do the 50 K replay (./run_shms.sh)

2) do root ROOTfiles/shms_replay_production_run_50000.root

3) do T->Draw("P.cal.etottracknorm>>h2(150,0.01,1.5)","P.gtr.dp > -10. && P.gtr.dp < 22. && P.ngcer.npeSum > 2.")

4) Look for the electron peak

5) do h2->Integral(low,high) (where low and high are the bin numbers)

6) read the number and now project how many triggers you should take to get 450 k electrons


  • F2 positron run plan:
  • Keep ELCLEAN rate <5 kHz
  • TO will need to adjust the cryo load between LH2 and LD2!
  • Use the F2 tune to set the magnets: go_magnets_SHMS_F2

1) 38 deg , Ep = +1.8 GeV , elclean statistics = 15 K on each target: LH2, LD2, Al dummy

2) 33 deg, Ep = +1.7 GeV , elclean statistics = 10 K on each target: LH2, LD2, Al dummy

3) 33 deg, Ep = +2.6 GeV , elclean statistics = 8 K on each target: LH2, LD2, Al dummy

4) 25 deg, Ep = + 3 Gev, elclean statistics = 3 K on each target: LH2, LD2, Al dummy

  • If there is time, take more statistics!


  • Sylvester's negative half of J/psi [1]

--> run at the last block of kinematics under "Setting scan" - 15 min per kinematic setting

Notices in Effect for Shift Crew

  • If rotation cannot be Reset, call the RC, then call Ops for an escorted/controlled access.
