Minutes

General

HMS

12 GeV Drift Chambers

  • Bishnu showed some slides
  • It was previously reported that there was many issues with the chambers
  • The chambers were moved to the TED highbay clean room and many issues were identified
  • Chamber 1 was opened, cleaned, and repaired
  • After HV was applied the chamber 1 it was still pulling 30 uA at 1850V with Ar:CO2
  • Chamber 2 was moved into hall-C and now chamber is drawing 110 nA at 2100V with Ar:Ethane
  • Future plans are connect chamber 2 to DAQ in the hall to measure the plateau curve and perform threshold studies
  • The outlook for the chambers is good

SHMS

GEM

  • Latif showed some slides
  • The HV issues have been resolved and the GEM is back online
  • The misunderstanding of the latency is now understood
  • They have successfully performed latency scans in a robust manner
  • A standalone trigger with the production 3/4 trigger has been implemented
  • The latencies were directly measured on the scope and then translated to the CRL configuration
  • The latencies are clearly understood now
  • The TI firmware in ROC12 has been updated in conjunction with the rest of the SHMS ROC’s
  • The latency between the two firmware versions do not modify the delay between the L1A and the pre-trigger as expected
  • The GEM group are going to steal the DAQ afternoon/tonight for a cosmic run
  • No other triggers will be configured in this run for these integrated DAQ tests

Hodoscopes

  • Simona Showed some slides
  • The new PMTs were delivered September 26, 2017 (2 months late)
  • The PMTs have met spec despite catalog inflation
  • Previous cookie thickness was measured to be 500 um to 1 mm despite goal of < 200 um
  • On. Average the cookie thickness are now < 50 um
  • The manufacturing details of the cookie manufacturing, PMT coupling, and assembly processes were shown
  • They can now reliably make cookies and assemble quartz bars
  • 12 bars anticipated to be ready by 3rd week of October and should be done with 16 by the middle of November
  • Carl Zorn performed QE studies for all 32 PMTs, they match what what ET reported
  • Simona performed gain measurements on the scope, they match with Carl’s who utilized a DAQ
  • The cosmic test stand is sitting on the Hall-C floor
  • It currently forms 5 space points with 4 fold coincidences to select perpendicular cosmic tracks through the quartz bars
  • Pedestals were annoyingly narrow!
  • 3 weeks should be available for testing
  • The plane needs to be back in the stack prior to Nov 20

Heavy Gas Cherenkov

  • Ryan showed some slides
  • Documentation has been added to the DocDB and a README in the CALIBRATION directory in hallc_replay
  • New ability to update calibration constants
  • Updated pion efficiency for pion:electron ratio
  • Simulations are ongoing to better understand the loss of PE’s observed during the KPP run
  • The studies are ongoing
