Betsy Beise
First report from a green
run coordinator. Thanks for the training Serge and have a safe trip.
This report is mostly
normal
production
running.
The IHWP state was changed from OUT
to IN on Friday around
9:00 AM. Beam spin is
longitudinal. After the BCM monitor controller was swapped and Joe
Beaufait redid some of the connectors in the counting house area, the
temperature control appears to have stabilized. BCM/BPM
calibration on Friday, along with some loss of time for Hall B
tuning. Also, Darko noticed a
residual rate, with a time constant of about a minute after the beam
goes off, in the new quartz tubes in Octant 5 ( Cer
).
See the plans of PD/MCC on the White
Board for next week -- we should expect a few hours of down time
each day shift.
DAILY 8AM
MEETINGS ARE MOVING TO CEBAF CENTER, Room F113 STARTING MONDAY OCT
16.
Beam
and running conditions
1) Good beam
conditions on Thursday
after beam restored around 3 PM, all through the night except for close
to 6 AM just before beam trip. Lost some hours on Fri AM due to MCC
work
on Hall B beam.
2) Beam
parameters should be nominal
(60
micro-A, good halo and Parity Quality within specification).
3) The
IHWP was switched from OUT
to IN on Friday at 9 AM
(just before run 31437).
4) Recommendation(s):
- Be alert
!!
Shift Leader : pay attention to the beam, especially its Y position. Also there are
tricks when IOCs are rebooted.
- Run the script "Dave's Beam" from time to
time.
- Try to end/start run
during beam trip ...
- Have Hall A charge feedback ON and check
that Hall C charge feedback is updating every 2-5 minutes.
- Take snapshots of Flipper text and IWHP
panel when changing IHWP state (OUT/IN).
- Check that coil modulation is
ON
(Coil)
- Notify Hall A of any IHWP change as they are now in
production mode with polarized beam
- Clean !!
Well, Serge is not here, but Colleen is keeping a
vigilant eye....
- Notice
!! Post
your questions/concerns when checking data or
set-ups.
Achievements during this 24 hour period :
1)
Charge
accumulated
(runs 31432-31436), about 0.8 C.
Total accumulated charge is 45 C (for Longitudinal).
3) Calibration of
BPM/BCM Friday noon-3PM. Brief investigation
of
saturation effects in the CAV2 y signal is scheduled for 4PM
Friday.
4) Weekly checks of data files last done on Wed 11-Oct (Checks)
Medium term plans and work underway
A)
Installation of HKS drift
chamber
- Mechanical insertion of chambers in G0. Needs a hall access
(about 3 hours);
tentative schedule is to mount them on the octant rails Tuesday AM
during beam studies, then slide chambers into data-taking position on
Thursday.
B) IHWP state changes
planned this Week
- Change it from IN
to OUT on Sunday and OUT to IN on Wednesday.
Each time at around 8 AM.
C) Moeller
measurement on Thursday next Week as part of Beam Study (suggested by
Jay Benesch, see white board, to
be coordinated with MCC by Dave/Tanja)
D) Background studies
(Flyswatter w/ and wo/ Radiator) to be scheduled.
- Analyze the hours of data taken up to now to check numbers
and develop a
run plan (underway by Alex). Remaining needed before switching to LD2
are about 1 hour
each of Flyswatter alone and FS+radiator, possibly at 2 different beam
currents. Plan for doing this again
after quartz tubes installed. A few folks will learn how to put
flyswatter in/out during access next week.
