Polarized Helium-3 Experiments (E12-06-110/E12-06-121) main page

Experiment E12-06-110 (A1n) and E12-06-121 (d2n) are scheduled to run from Dec. 3, 2019 to May 6, 2020, with breaks for the X'mas shutdown and the target rotation. These two experiments focus on studies of the nucleon spin structure.

HMS saturation measurement run plan

  • Boiling studies

--> HMS, SHMS: 25 deg, -4.4 GeV/c (E = 10.6 GeV) (we will take data in both spectrometers at the same time)

--> shoot for 0.5 % statistical uncertainty where possible (no less than 0.8 %)

--> Trigger type will be ELREAL (prescale if needed to keep the DAQ rate below 3000 Hz)

  • HMS/SHMS saturation tests
    • Run two separate DAQs. For HMS PS2=0 and SHMS PS2=0, rest to -1.
    • Use the optics 1 target
    • Put sieve in HMS and centered sieve in SHMS
    • Maximum current.
    • Set HMS angle to 15 degrees and SHMS angle to 9 degrees.
    • Need to cycle magnets in HMS and SHMS.
    • Want to have 2000 counts in center foil.
    • For HMS the dipole NMR will be adjusted at each setting to give good Ytar versus Yptar.
    • For HMS at 5.9,5.7 and 5.5 have been done before. It is a consistency check. 5.3 and 5.1 will see if dipole needs to be changed.
    • For SHMS , just take data
